Event overview
Explore individual Windrush journeys, navigate hostile environments and weave your own journey in the sanctuary of a Caribbean Front Room
This immersive, interactive installation invites you to explore digital recreations of Windrush passenger landing cards, representing those destroyed by the Home Office in 2010.
Based on a transcription of the Windrush passenger list held at The National Archives, the landing cards represent a single pivotal moment in the life of each passenger; a snapshot of hope, opportunity and uncertainty.
Access 1,027 individual landing cards using a specially designed digital reader and trace the journey of each passenger on an interactive world map.
Share your own journey on a mock landing card, which will be ‘processed’ and displayed in the space.
The installation culminates with a short weaving workshop in the sanctuary of a mid-century Caribbean Front Room space.
Part of the V&A’s Digital Design Weekend and London Design Festival 2019.
