Event overview
The Photolab and MCCS welcomes artist Laura Cuch to talk about her recent photography book and accompanying documentary, 'Spiritual Flavours'.
Spiritual Flavours is an arts project inviting members of different faith communities in the London Borough of Ealing to contribute recipes that they relate to their spirituality and religious practices. These recipes reveal the diversity of contemporary suburban London, but also show the many different ways that food and faith are inter-related. Through interviews and cooking sessions, the project pays attention to affective relationships with food, as a vehicle to explore ideas about inheritance, tradition and belief. These sessions are the basis of a recipe photobook and a short film.
Laura Cuch is a photographer, filmmaker and researcher in the geography department at UCL. Previously, Laura’s practice has focused on the visualisation of urban geographies and the interrelations between photography, health, the body and processes of subjectivity. She currently teaches photography in the MA in Photography and Urban Cultures (which she graduated from in 2006); in the BA in Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths and; in the International Urban Photography Summer School. Laura is a member of the Urban Photography Association. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally.
