Event overview
Exploring the limits and possibilities for institutional change
This event showcases the research of four students who graduated from the MA Education: Culture Language and Identity programme at Goldsmiths in 2020. Between them, the four presentations explore how racialised, classed and gendered thinking still excludes and marginalises at all levels of formal education, from early years classrooms to university. They also offer practical suggestions for institutional change. Their work epitomises the engagement, criticality and activism of the best Master's level research.
Addressing the ‘Vocabulary Gap’ in a Key Stage 2 Classroom, Simon Codling
Neoliberalism and education: school exclusion reform and the politics of disposability, Jacqueline Krause
Advocating for Black and ethically marginalised parents, whilst Black, Jaki Glen
Black postgraduate students' perceptions of race and class and the impact on their educational experiences, Mira Wille
The MA Education: culture language and identity explores teaching and learning from a socio-cultural perspective and attracts students with a strong concern for social justice.
The event will be of interest to anyone who cares about current issues in education, as well as those who are themselves undertaking Master's level study. We hope that questions and discussion will include attention to methods and methodologies as well as findings.
*The event will be held online via Zoom. A link will be sent out to registered attendees near the time of the event.
