Chinese Translation and Play Script Writing Competition - Winner Announcement

Congratulations to Winners James Harris and Ke Zuo!

The Goldsmiths Confucius Institute for Dance and Performance’s 2018 Chinese Translation and Playscript Writing Competition came to close this August with an immersive reading of the winning script in Edinburgh’s historic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre.

Winners James Harris and Ke Zuo opted to translate and reinterpret the Chinese classic The Injustice of Dou E, and their unique take on the epic theatrical tale caught the attention of the judges. Working as a team, the original script was translated by Ke Zuo, and was then brought to life in a dark comedy style script incorporating both elements of the original Chinese culture and British humour and comedic stylings. This script culminated in a lively and engaging script reading in Edinburgh, which was well received by audiences and encouraged an insightful discussion between the actors and audience following the reading.

Once again, we’d like to congratulate James Harris and Ke Zuo for their engaging and unique entry.

Check back in the future for information regarding our 2019 competition details.
