Besides being a Visiting Research and Knowledge Exchange Fellow (VRKEF) at ICCE, she is a Fellow in Social Learning Leadership, at the Social Learning Lab led by global theorists Etienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner. She is currently focusing on her scholarly writing, accepting occasional teaching, supervision, examining and consulting opportunities. She continues engaged in the eurovisions.eu [https://www.eurovisions.eu/] project, as a core member of this research group yearly delivering an international conference on the Eurovision Song Contest.
In her academic career, she is most proud of being awarded the 2018 Goldsmiths Student-Led Award for Challenging and Inspiring Teaching, nominated by her international cohort of students. At ICCE, Goldsmiths, she had for a decade the roles of PhD Supervisor, Programme Convener of two MAs, Lead Tutor of several modules, and programme Senior Tutor. She was also Chair of Research Committee and Chair of the Postgraduate Learning and Teaching Committee. She joined ICCE as Visiting Tutor in 2011, when she design and deliver an option module for an existing masters’ programme. In 2012/3, she used that module as a basis to develop the first MA programme in the world dedicated to international cultural relations and cultural diplomacy, and became a Lecturer (and a Senior Lecturer from 2019). The MA in Cultural Policy, Relations and Diplomacy (MA CPRD), which she designed and taught for a decade, was launched in 2013/14. In ICCE, she also convened and taught on the MA in Tourism and Cultural Policy since 2013, and was module leader for eight years on a Graduate Diploma (Level 6). She has successfully supervised four PhDs to completion and examined eleven. Dr Figueira left her paid employment at Goldsmiths on the 31st July 2024, but remains attached as a VRKEF.
Carla is an International Relations graduate from Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas da Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal) and she moved to London after a career in arts management at Lisbon’s Local Authority (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Departamento de Cultura), where her last post was Director of the Municipal Sound Library (Fonoteca Municipal de Lisboa), heading a team of 13 staff. In the UK, she gained an MA in Arts Management (City University, Chevening Scholar) and a PhD in Cultural Policy and Management (City University, Praxis XXI Scholar).
She is a founding member of ICRRA, the International Cultural Relations Research Alliance, hosted by Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen and the British Council. She is a member of ENCATC, the European network on Cultural Management and Cultural Policy education, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
