Almost three-quarters of research at Goldsmiths was rated world leading or internationally excellent by the Research Excellence Framework.
"Goldsmiths has a proud tradition of being a place where research and teaching fuses together, providing a stimulating environment for learning, researching and innovating. We’re delighted that this has been reflected in an increase in the volume of world leading and internationally excellent research.”
Patrick Loughrey, Warden of Goldsmiths 2010-2019.
Research across all of our departments was recognised as having powerful impact, providing significant benefits to society, culture and the economy and reaching far beyond higher education. 78% of our impact was rated world-leading or internationally excellent, reaffirming our broader relevance.
The vibrancy of the research environment at Goldsmiths was also recognised, with over 80% of our departments rated as internationally excellent or world leading. We have secured record amounts of research funding in recent years and host four prestigious UKRC Doctoral Training Centres.
- The research environments of our departments of Art, Design, Visual Cultures, Music, Anthropology and Computing were wholly rated as internationally excellent or world leading
- All of the research impact from our departments of Anthropology, Computing, Media and Communications, Music and Psychology was rated as internationally excellent or world leading
The Research Excellence Framework replaced the Research Assessment Exercise which last took place in 2008. The Framework introduced a new measurement for impact and asked universities to submit case studies as evidence.
