Course overview

What is creativity? How creative ideas emerge and evolve? How can I enhance my creativity?

I enjoyed the whole day very much. It was well structured and it was brilliant having a physical drama workshop included.

Useful and inspiring - lecturers sharing their own experiences and academic interests was great.

Creativity in One Day is aimed for anyone who's interested in creativity. During the day, the participants will be introduced to creativity from the viewpoints of psychology, sociology and drama. You will about theories and practise related to creativity, as well as taking part to a drama workshop focusing on how to recognise and enhance one's creative abilities. Questions and discussion will be welcomed throughout the day.

During the sociological workshop, Dr. Tuukka Toivonen will discuss the social and organisational side of creative processes, focusing on the creative idea journey as a unifying concept of scholarly and practical importance. Tuukka is an expert on creativity in entrepreneurship, coworking and collaborative organisations.

Hester Welsch will facilitate a drama workshop drawn upon the work of esteemed theatre practitioners Michael Chekhov and Jacques Lecoq. Imagination and play/playfulness, or ‘le jeu’, are central aspects to these pedagogies, and through these we begin to understand the practice of creativity. Through practical exercises and group discussion, we will explore the most integral aspects of creativity; adaptability, imagination and openness.

During the day, Teemu Toivainen will introduce the ways creativity is conceptualised and measured in psychological research. Recent studies on the field of neuroscience and genetics will be also presented.
