Rest In Pixels

The increasingly social environment of the modern digital world means that people are becoming more prone to experiencing extreme emotions such as love and loss within a, sometimes purely, digital framework. ‘Rest in Pixels’ explores the use of social networks as a vehicle for communal support and bereavement.

This study narrates, through the medium of film, the usage of a range of fictional products and systems which would allow people to remember and mourn within a virtual environment, members of their community who have passed away. This is achieved by generating systems and products that interact specifically with the community and design of popular social networks: Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and Second Life.

By working through these popular and sometimes controversial social networks, this project aims to encourage discourse around the topic of loss within the digital world.
