How to open a student bank account
You can find independent information on student accounts at MoneySavingExpert.
To open a student bank account you will need a current UK address. You will also need to show the bank proof of identity (eg passport, birth certificate, current UK photocard driving licence), and evidence that you are a student.
Some banks will accept your Goldsmiths card as evidence of your student status. Others may ask for a letter confirming that you are a student or that you have an unconditional offer on a course.
You can request a letter via MyGoldsmiths and print it off yourself. If required you can bring it into the Student Centre to get it stamped. Please ensure that your address is correct by clicking on the ‘My Details’ tab and then ‘Change your address’.
Goldsmiths does not recommend any particular bank, however, if you wish to open an account without using a mainstream bank, Loot provides a virtual, smartphone bank account solution and you are able to open this upon your arrival to the UK if you are an international student, or at any time if you are a UK-based student.
