Peter manages the various Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) platforms such as learn.gold, Mahara and BigBlueButton web conferencing. His previous experience includes web and software development, video and audio production and supporting staff and students across a number of UK Higher Education institutions.
After some years at UEA in their Computing department, he moved into the private sector developing large web sites for blue chip clients. He then moved to UCL as a Moodle developer, responsible for upgrades to the VLE, day to day queries and integration with other systems such as student records.
After completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Online and Distance Education with the Open University, his interests extended into pedagogy and the more practical aspects of using distance learning techniques to support face to face teaching – hence a move to learning technology.
He has since had varied roles at a number of HE institutions including UWL and St George's in Tooting, mainly supporting or managing TEL including the main VLEs Moodle, Blackboard and Canvas. His roles have also included CampusPress and Mahara ePortfolios, copyright, accessibility, lecture capture, video assignments and classroom voting tools.
Peter is interested in and/or slightly obsessed with all aspects of the design of learning activities using technology. He endeavours to promote accessibility, usability and the creative and effective uses for technology in teaching and learning.
He helps organise the local M25 Association for Learning Technology meetings and takes part in a number of similar formal and informal networking events.
He releases electronic music under the name alpha seven and is engaged in a constant battle of wits with the household’s cat.
