Non-native speakers of English need to be able to demonstrate the required level of English Language competence to enrol on our programmes.
The table on the right shows which English Language proficiency qualifications we accept. We prefer IELTS because it shows us which areas of your English might need to be improved.
If you have a lower score than any of these, but at least 5.0 in IELTS or 520 in TOEFL, you may be offered a place if you attend an approved Pre-sessional English Language course at Goldsmiths. We also offer International Pathways, which can help prepare you for degree level study at Goldsmiths or another UK institution.
Extension Degrees
The minimum English Language requirement for Extension Degrees is a score of 5.0 in IELTS, a score of 520 in TOEFL (which should include a TWE score of 3.0), or equivalent.
Please note that IELTS, TOEFL and other English Language proficiency qualifications are not acceptable in place of GCSE English for Initial Teacher Education programmes.
In line with the validity period for IELTS and TOEFL qualifications, English proficiency qualifications must be less than two years old at the time you will commence the course to be valid.
