The Finance Department, in conjunction with Staff Development HR, is pleased to invite you to our one day seminar on Finance in Higher Education Tuesday 23 March, repeated on Tuesday 30 March
This seminar is designed for Heads of Department, Departmental Administrators and departmental budget holders.
The session will be led by Barry Benjamin, who, until the appointment of Sally Townsend last year, was acting Director of Finance at Goldsmiths and is currently Interim Director of Finance at Trinity Laban.
Barry has run courses on financial management within HE over many years. These have been tailored to the needs of a wide spectrum of staff - from Deans of Faculty (Heads of Department) through to administrative staff. The sessions are aimed at addressing the topic of finance for non-finance professionals. Barry aims to provide an overview of finance in Higher Education while keeping it accessible and relevant to us at Goldsmiths. There will be plenty of opportunity for group discussion and questions during the morning sessions, and then a panel discussion in the afternoon where you can address your issues and topics to the panel members.
For the morning session, topics covered include The Government and Higher Education, Relationship with Funding Councils, Research Income and Other Sources of Funding, Financial Control Mechanisms and the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).
After a buffet lunch, there will be a presentation on HEIs' and specifically, Goldsmiths', financial accounts. For the panel discussion, Barry will be joined by Sally Townsend, Director of Finance and members of her Management Accounts and Financial Accounts team as well as a guest 'client' of Finance who will all endeavour to answer your questions and explore the subject of finance with you.
Places are limited so RSVP for Finance in Higher Education Seminar by Friday 5 March 2010
