Entering the sphere of academic publishing
You have to, you want to, you need to write, now.
But how do you publish?
In an atmosphere of loneliness, alienation, rejection, competition, anxiety, hierarchy, nepotism and jealousy, how does the "early career scholar" (re)negotiate the demand to produce? Given the increased pressures of the academic publishing industry, how can we avoid labouring under illusions, false promises and unrealistic expectations? And yet the pleasures of the text, new platforms and opportunities for publishing and sharing are there before us.
Workshops and papers on the themes of:
- starting to publish
- alternative and collective forums
- process, gatekeepers, shortcuts, dilemmas
- the value of words we throw away
Other topics:
- tags
- platforms
- themes
- practice
- labour
- copyright
- intellectual freedom
- models
- archives
The event will include keynotes from the managing directors of prominent publishers, Pluto Press and other publishers
