Event overview
The Department of Design to present at event in Bromley
The work of the PGCE (D&T) Textiles and Fashion Students (and other design department activities/courses) on Tuesday May 15th at the Queens Diamond Jubilee visit to Bromley.
The visit to Bromley will focus on fashion and textiles heritage. The Design Department was chosen because of the work we do with fashion and textiles PGCE students, and how they are trained to go on and teach the next generation of students to engage with fashion and textiles.
We will be based in the Queens Gardens alongside other fashion and design illuminaries.
Rose Sinclair, John Backwell and 3rd Year BEng Design student Hugh Boys from the Dept of Design will be presented to the Queen at the Goldsmiths Design Pod, as part of her visit to see the fashion and textiles heritage work.
Student Hugh Boys will be showcasing work developed as part of his final degree project that focuses on technical textiles. He developed the project after a session delivered on technical textiles and electronics in textiles by Rose Sinclair.
Several design and PGCE students will also feature their work (many of our PGCE students come from professional backgrounds)
From 12.00 mid-day to 5.00pm the event is open to the general public. On the Goldsmiths design pod, we will be introducing the public to designing textiles using new materials and showing how electronics and textiles works together as well as showcasing work from the Speedstep CAD/CAM project. Several design students will be on the Goldsmiths design stand
The event gives us the chance to showcase the great work that is done by the fashion and textiles teachers and the impact of fashion and textiles in a wider sense.
