Welcome to the Centre for Identities and Social Justice

The Centre for Identities and Social Justice is open to all. It aims to draw together staff and postgraduate students in the department who are interested in researching the ways that education relates to issues of inequality.

Topics currently being researched by members of the group include the ways that beginning teachers deal with racism in their practice, girls and physical education, the workings of permanent exclusion and the intersections of ‘race’, gender and class in reality TV.

The group organises seminars 3 times each term where people from inside and outside of the department present and discuss their work. Members also work together in other ways including preparing papers for publication and research proposals.
