MMus in Creative Practice student Wendy Spitzer presents her final degree showcase "Vulnerability in Collaboration"

This performance concerns how interpersonal vulnerability – the emotional exchange that happens when one person decides to risk judgment and open up to another – plays out in creative collaborations. How is this exchange different/similar, when the agents of that exchange are working together on a creative project? What can be learned about vulnerability, identity, and collaboration by the musicians themselves in collaborative practice?

To explore these ideas, Wendy Spitzer (MMus Creative Practice) engaged creatively with three other MMus Goldsmiths students over the course of the summer. This is a showcase of the outputs of the three collaborations in a diverse three-set performance:

Genevieve Dawson (MMus Creative Practice) + Wendy Spitzer
collaborative songwriting

Nour Emam (MMus Sonic Arts) + Wendy Spitzer
live cor anglais/marimba and live electronics: improvisations based on photographs

Barnabas Poffley (MMus Pop Music) + Wendy Spitzer
rhythm studies: mixed meter instrumentals, also featuring Rick Leigh and Tim Gardner

Followed by a Q&A session.
