The Golden Curse of Actuality: Comedy and the Novel
The first of an annual lecture series in which leading authors offer a personal manifesto on why the novel matters.
Howard Jacobson is the author of five works of nonfiction and fourteen novels, including The Finkler Question, which won the Man Booker Prize; J, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker and Goldsmiths prizes; The Mighty Walzer and Zoo Time, which won the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for comic writing; and Who’s Sorry Now?, which was long-listed for the Booker Prize. He has a weekly column for The Independent and regularly reviews and writes for The Guardian, The Times, and The Evening Standard.
The evening will conclude with the announcement of the shortlist for the 2016 Goldsmiths Prize.
