Special talk and screening of the 1964 animation of Monkey King "Uproar in Heaven". As part of Gold on Film week.
Completed one year before the outbreak of the Cultural Revolution, the timely-titled Uproar in Heaven (1964) represents both the culmination and the final curtain call of the golden age of Chinese animation.
Join Professors Chris Berry (Film studies, King's College) and Michael Dutton (Politics, Goldsmiths) as they discuss its cultural and artistic relevance on this "Year of the Monkey"
Prof. Chris Berry is a professor of Film Studies at King’s College London and currently teaches on modules including Film Authorship; Representation and Identity; Chinese Cinemas; and New Directions in Chinese Cinema.
Professor Michael Dutton joined the Politics department at Goldsmiths in 2006 having previously taught in Australia where he was also educated. Areas of Specialism include China, postcolonial and postmodern theory, everydayness and the metropolis, Chinese policing and punishment
