Event overview
Stitching the layers is a workshop by artist Suzy Adderley to accompany her exhibition The Parachute Files: Records from an Inner Journey
A short artist talk and Q & A in the Gallery will explore a descent through layers of personality, the therapeutics of the handmade and the stitching together of a sense of self.
The following practical workshop will explore techniques of applique and reverse applique using blanket and hemming stitch and the use of facings and interlinings to create finished edges. Participants are encouraged to share their own methods and bring examples of their work or to start from scratch and experiment with the materials provided.
There will be an opportunity to view relevant items from the Goldsmiths Textile Collection as well as other examples of the artist's stitched pieces.
