The piano compositions of Reinhold Glière: rediscovering the last romantic of the Soviet Union.

As part of the Department of Music's PureGold season, we present a lecture/recital by Italian pianist Gianluca Imperato, which will feature solo piano pieces by Reinhold Glière.

Concert programme:
Kinderstücke op.31 (selection)
Romance op.16 no.2
Two piano pieces op.99
10 Preludes from 25 Preludes op.30

Gianluca Imperato was born in Italy, and after obtaining a 1st class degree at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatoire in Naples, he continued his studies in Germany and Poland. A frequent guest at some of Europe’s best-known institutions, including the Società dei concerti in Milan, the Chopin Society in Warsaw, the Ravello Concert Society, Fondazione Santa Cecilia in Portogruaro, he performs in famous venues such as the Chopin Hall in Warsaw, the G. Verdi Conservatoire in Milan, Teatro Jofre de Ferrol in Spain, Auditorium M. Ravel in Paris and many others.

Winner of over thirty prizes at many prestigious international piano competitions Gianluca Imperato has been awarded several scholarships, including the G. Solti Foundation grant (2012) and the subsidy offered by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While his repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music, he is particularly committed to performing the music of lesser-known composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
