Listen is a pop-up sound installation exhibition that will transmit the personal stories of refugees through 20 suspended headphones & is dedicated to giving refugees a voice.

This event has been organised by Dami Hope Lawal, who is studying on the MA in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship: Design Programme at Goldsmiths. Listen is supported by The Annual Fund, and is dedicated to giving a voice to refugees whose voices are not heard, by allowing the community to listen to the individual stories of why people are migrating from a migrant’s perspective.

The purpose of the exhibition is to help change the consciousness of people who are xenophobic towards refugees. The personal stories of refugees will be transmitted through 20 suspended headphones allowing the public to rotate and hear multiple stories, and share their thoughts through an interactive message board. Alongside the Sound Installation will be a photographic gallery showcasing images of the storytellers’ hands and posters representing the stories told.

'Listen' aims to give hope and aspiration to people who are affected by the refugee crisis, and is determined to spread refugee awareness by working to help bring to light the issue to the community.

Listen has worked alongside the following Refugee organisations:
AFRIL; http://www.afril.org.uk/en/
Barnet Refugee Service; http://www.b-r-s.org.uk/
The Bike Project; http://thebikeproject.co.uk/
Phosphoros Theatre; https://www.facebook.com/pg/PhosphorosTheatre/about/

Limited edition laser-cut products that represent each of the 20 stories in the exhibition will be sold, and proceeds will be distributed to the Refugee organisations that Listen has collaborated with.
