Bella Milroy explores the inspiring nature of artists' archives and how their materiality reveals the everyday of careers and lives of women artists, otherwise hidden.

Bella Milroy won a residency in the Women's Art Library when she received the 2015 Birth Rites Collection Bi-annual Award. The ACE funded project she has developed begins with the installation in the Kingsway Corridor and will include the publication “File under Female” distributed in association with National Libraries Week 2017 featuring photographs and short essays co-produced with the artists “The White Pube”. This exhibition is part of a larger project partnering with Chesterfield Library, extending audience engagement and access to the important body of work held by the Women’s Art Library in Special Collections, signposting the archive and profiling the significant achievement of women artists. The project will celebrate the importance of preserving unique cultural history, and extend appreciation of the cultural value derived from the way we conserve, display and promote women’s art today.
