Jon Roskilly is a freelance trombonist specialising in new music and is currently based in Basel, Switzerland. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Simon Wills and at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel with Mike Svoboda. He performs regularly with some of Europe’s leading new music ensembles (Ensemble MusikFabrik, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Phoenix, etc.) and as a soloist at events across Europe and at festivals such as the Darmstadt Courses for New Music, Wien Modern, and Warsaw Autumn. He is a founder member of the ensembles les trombones de bâle and duo vers (with percussionist Dino Georgeton). Jon is particularly interested in working directly with composers to develop the repertoire of the trombone and has been involved in the creation of several new pieces for the instrument. His passion for new music for the trombone has also led him to create a YouTube channel, New Trombone Stuff, to help classical trombonists gain an insight into contemporary repertoire.
