This is an ICCE Salon event - an opportunity to meet and understand the realities of cultural entrepreneurship.

Joseph Popkins is a painter. He is on the brink of suicide.

Holed up in Riga, Latvia where he has escaped London to search for his wife Peggy who disappeared the previous winter, he spends his days drinking and drawing prostitutes while looking back on the life that led to this tragic conclusion. From the political upheaval of ‘60’s Berlin, to the indulgent ‘90’s London Art scene and the sex industry of modern day Latvia, this is a book about art, politics, activism, love, rivalry and death.’

Having just appeared at HOME’s production of‘Uncle Vanya’ as Dr Astrov - Jason Merrells will be reading excerpts from his novel ‘When a Tree Falls.’ The book features original illustrations by the author. This project is in development with the Arts Council England with a view to completion and publication next year. The piece is being done in collaboration with National Ugly Mugs, a brilliant charity who look after and help protect sex workers from abuse and violence. All donations gratefully received.

5pm, 12 December, PSH 305 - all welcome!
