Explore Chinese Opera Movements and experience a unique and experimental performance style from Master Yiteng Deng in this explorative workshop and Q&A session.

In cooperation with Southbank Centre, Goldsmiths Confucius Institute will welcome a performance group from China to stage the stunning and experminetal 'The Injustice of Tou O' at Southbank Centre on the 7th October. Following this on the 8th, Master Yiteng Ding will host an immersive workshop at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Theatre Performing Arts Workshop given by Yiteng Ding (China): Transformations of Traditional Chinese Theatre Technique

Participants will become acquainted and work on basic theatre movements from Chinese Peking Opera through a demonstration and short excerpt of the performance. Following the demonstration, these traditional theatre movements will be transformed, manipulated and unfolded into something we call 'New Codification', exploring new meanings and possibilities for modern theatre through the ancient oriental theatre Bodies. The evening will be closed with a Q&A with the performers.

About Tou O:

Tou’ O with the well-known experimental theatrical director Meng Jinghui as the art executive producer, is directed by new and vigorous Chinese experimental theatrical director Ding Yiteng, The inspiration of this show originates from the Yuan northern drama Injustice to Tou O by the dramatist Kwan Hanqing in Yuan Dynasty. It is a contemporary experimental theatre project created on the combination of Chinese traditional drama scripts and techniques and he western modern philosophical thinking as well as he experimental forms. The work has been presented in Wuzhen Theatre Festival and China National Theater and has caused strong repercussions.
