After Windrush. Anthony Joseph and Fred D'Aguiar discuss their relationship with the history, music and literature of the Caribbean and read from their new books.
Anthony Joseph left Trinidad for London in his mid twenties. A poet, musician and lecturer, he holds a PhD in Creative Writing, he is the author of four poetry collections and the novel 'The African Origins of UFOs' (2006). His new novel 'Kitch' published in June, is a multi-faceted fictionalised life of the calypso artist Lord Kitchener. He is currently the Colm Toibin Fellow in Creative Writing at the University of Liverpool.
Born in south London, Fred D'Aguiar grew up in Guyana and returned to the UK in his teens. He has written poetry, fiction, plays and essays. His new poetry collection, 'Translations from Memory' ranges from classical philosophy to C.L.R. James, from Asia and Europe, to the new world. His most recent novel , about Jonestown, is titled ' Children of Paradise' (2014). He teaches at UCLA where he directs the undergraduate creative writing programme.
