An exhibition centering the practices of Korean diaspora artists, curated by Goldsmiths MFA Curating students.

Korean diaspora identity straddles multiple geographies, with one leg in a host country and another phantom limb reaching towards Korea. Phantom Limb brings together artists Dylan Mira (Los Angeles), Jette Hye Jin Mortensen (Roskilde), Joan Oh (New York City), Tiffany Jaeyeon Shin (New York City), and Zadie Xa (London) to expand and re-contextualize what it means to self-identify as Korean within a Western context. Through immersive installation, video, sculpture, and a programme of events, the artists work to build a lexicon of Korean diaspora imagery.

Our programme of free events includes:
1 November, 6-9pm: The Apology, a performance by Jette Hye Jin Mortensen in collaboration with Musarc
3 November, 1-3pm: A Vegetable Fermentation Workshop with Kimchi Radishian, a fermentation workshop led by Joan Oh (free, booking required: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-vegetable-fermentation-workshop-with-kimchi-radishian-tickets-51292216400)
18 November, 5-6pm: Fleshing Out the Ghost: the Fetish, Desire, and Master in K-beauty, a performative lecture by Tiffany Jaeyeon Shin (free, booking required: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fleshing-out-the-ghost-the-fetish-desire-and-master-in-k-beauty-tickets-51293603549)

Phantom Limb is curated by Katie Yook and Kathy Cho in partnership with Cody Dock and is the finale of a year-long programme of events across London. Please visit http://www.phantomlimb.info for further details about our programming schedule, artist interviews, and a selected reading list accompanying the exhibition.
