Event overview
A community battle against a proposed development which threatens to destroy the oasis they have cultivated.
The Garden tells the story of South Central Farm, a 14-acre community garden created in response to the devastating LA riots, and the people who tend it. When suddenly faced with eviction, the predominantly low-income Latinx farmers mobilise against City Hall in a moving attempt to stake a claim to their city.
Drinks and snacks will be provided with the generous support of the Goldsmiths SU Academic Communities fund.
The Cities on Screen series is an informal, student-led space for sociology students and others to reflect on and discuss issues and ideas related to city life. Curated by Sophie Porter and Emily Ballard, MA Cities and Society.
