Dr Joe Oliver introduces ACT-based coaching as a mindfulness and acceptance-based approach to coaching.

Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is a revolutionary, modern approach to behaviour change that has direct applicability to coaching. More and more coaches are using ACT to take their practice to the next level, helping their clients to become more flexible, resourceful and responsive, even under the most challenging of circumstances.

In this talk, Dr Joe Oliver will introduce Acceptance and Commitment Coaching (ACC), defining it as an approach that incorporates mindfulness and acceptance, focusing on committed, values-based actions to help coaching clients make meaningful changes to their lives.

The talk will cover a practical introductory overview on the following:

• Adapting mindfulness for the workplace to build psychological flexibility – the ability to engage in valued behaviours even in the presence of unwanted thoughts and feelings

• Ways to enhance coaching clients’ skilful responding to thoughts and feelings

• How to help clients in taking committed action in service of their goals, using the power of habit to create sustainable change

Dr. Joe Oliver is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and founder of Contextual Consulting, the leading provider of ACT training in the United Kingdom. He has worked for over 20 years as a practicing psychologist and is currently a course director at University College London. He also runs a busy London-based private practice, offering ACT coaching and consultations. He is co-author of the self-help book, ACTivate Your Life and the forthcoming volume, Acceptance and Commitment Coaching: Distinctive Features with Routledge Publishers.
