Adam Oliver, Head of Hothouses at BT Technology talks about his work in Hothouses for business processes, and his involvement with BT's Apprentice community.

In this talk, Adam Oliver will take us through his work at BT. Firstly, through enabling business change through the Hothouses he runs where multi-disciplinary teams are brought together in an intense multi day event to solve complex issues. Secondly, Adam will talk about the work he has done alongside his roles in BT for the last 9 years which has enabled nearly 5,000 people from BT’s Apprentice community to experience the might of this massive company.

Adam runs BT’s Hothouses. These self contained spaces are used to facilitate business change, implement new ideas and enabling external clients to solve business challenges. Typically held over a three day event, rapid problem solving is possible where the right people are brought together in an intense facilitated event.

Adam has another keen interest and that is in the mentoring of many of BT’s Apprentices. Throughout his work, Adam sees how he can get Apprentices to be involved and also runs events to help Apprentices find out more about BT beyond their direct work. Many Apprentices benefit from Adam’s contacts and enthusiasm and thus BT’s future leaders and his work has helped the 82% retention rate in the past 19 years of Apprentice recruitment.

Adam is full of stories on what can be done to help people get the most from their career, whilst engaging with senior stakeholders across an organisation. If you are interested in getting the most from people in an organisation, come and hear Adam talk on how he enables people to feel part of a bigger company picture. This has helped the Apprentice community in BT rise up through the organisation and senior stakeholders to focus on this recruitment stream for the majority of recruitment.
