Event overview
A screening of the pioneering 1919 film, Anders als die Andern (Different from the Others), with an original score performed live by improvisational collective GROK.
The first film in the history of cinema to advocate for homosexual law reform, Anders als die Andern / Different from the Others was co-written by director Richard Oswald and sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld. The film was banned at the time of its release, later burned by the Nazis and was believed lost for more than forty years. Using recently discovered film segments, still photos and censorship documents from different archives, the Filmmuseum Muenchen has reconstructed this important queer film.
The film will be followed by a brief panel discussion including Benno Gammerl (Goldsmiths), Daisy Asquith (Goldsmiths), Chiara Beccalossi (Lincoln), and Scott Brodie (GROK).
