Where to Begin?
Led by Murat Adash, Josefina Camus, Katharina Ludwig, Kate Pickering with invited guests Deborah Black and Ria Samartzi

Here, we are a group, a collective.
Bodies of matter, of flesh and blood, of movement, of energy, of language and text.

Here, our bodies are in relation to a space. But also sites of their own.
Spaces in
spaces in
space.

We are multiple and different
Bodies shed, leak and rupture. Bodies seep and spill.
Bodies are not fixed by time or space: they shift, alter, dissolve, disappear. They morph into their surroundings, into other bodies.
Bodies feel, they weather emotions, sensations, energies.
Bodies tell their stories, not only in words.
The barrier is open, always fragile.

We will come together to form a crowd, of movement, of voice, of writing.

Together, we practice a method of embodied research through space, time, shape, story, emotion and movement.

This Art Research Seminar will involve a Viewpoints workshop run by Deborah Black and Ria Samartzi:

Introduction to the six viewpoints:
The Artist as Observer / Participant

Originated by dancer/choreographer, Mary Overlie, The Viewpoints deconstruct the materials used in performance: space, time, shape, emotion, story, and movement, opening up their infinite possibilities. The study of the Viewpoints introduces performance makers to a clear vocabulary of materials to spark research or new perspectives on their own work.

This session will include a brief introduction to the theoretical framework of the Viewpoints as well as taking a closer look at the materials through improvisation and experimentation.

Please note:

This workshop is for artists of all disciplines. No prior movement experience is necessary.
Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in and be aware we will be asking you to work in bare feet.
Please be punctual as late comers will disrupt the dynamic of the workshop.
