This session will start with a brief overview of the most commonly co-occurring specific learning differences (SpLD) and the ways that they can affect language learning. It will then consider the key indicators from which classroom teachers might identify that a student has a SpLD, taking into account diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Methods of informal evaluation and formal assessment will be outlined, so that appropriate support can be implemented, and additional resources accessed where necessary. Finally, some practical strategies to support multilingual neurodiverse learners in the classroom will be suggested.
