A Book Launch and Performance Event

Centre for Caribbean and Diaspora Studies, Department of English and Comparative Literature in association with Black.Arts.Gold presents dubbin poetry: the collected poems of d'bi.young anitafrika.

Performances by d'bi.young anitafrika, Mohammed Rowe, Deaira Hermani and Christopher Oliver.

Special guest : Professor Joan Anim-Addo

Spolrusie Publishing is thrilled to announce the April release of d’bi.young anitafrika's newest work, dubbin poetry: the collected poems of d’bi.young anitafrika, to be launched with a short book tour: Dublin Ireland (April), Toronto Canada, London UK and Lillehammer Norway (May), Bristol UK and Berlin Germany (June), Nottingham UK and Malmo Sweden (July).

Author Bio

d’bi.young anitafrika is a globally celebrated queer Black feminist Dub poet, theatre maker, educator & activist. Born & raised in Jamaica, she moved to Canada at fifteen years old. During the past twenty years, d’bi.young has written, performed & published numerous three collections of poetry, nine plays & seven Dub albums that decry racism, classism, misogyny, homophobia and neo-colonialism. She is a triple dora-award winning Canadian Poet of Honor & Womxn of Distinction in the Arts. Founding Artistic Director Emeritus of the Canadian Black theatre conservatory, Watah (2008-2018), & founder and creator of the Anitafrika Method - an emancipatory praxis for self-recovery, creative growth, and leadership development. Having taught the method worldwide, d’bi.young is presently engaged in further research on pedagogies of artist training, as part of her postgraduate studies in London UK. Her latest projects include Concrete Jungle (a new biomyth monodrama) and dubbin theatre: the collected plays of d’bi young anitafrika (2020).dbiyounganitafrika.com
