This Monday is the 84th birthday of American Minimalist composer Terry Riley. In honour of this pioneer of Minimal music there will be a performance of his legendary masterpiece.

Students and staff get together to perform this iconic semi-improvised work. Come along for all or part of it, sit in the courtyard and let the music wash over you in the final concert of this year's PureGold festival.

Composer and performer Terry Riley (1935 - ) is one of the founders of music’s Minimalist movement. His early works, notably In C (1964), pioneered a form in Western music based on structured interlocking repetitive patterns. The influence of Riley’s hypnotic, multi-layered, polymetric, brightly orchestrated Eastern-flavoured improvisations and compositions is heard across the span of contemporary and popular music.
