OperaWorks represents a creative and exploratory space for all aspects of vocal performance, opera and contemporary experimental music theatre.

This inaugural event will take place from 12-14th June across the Music Department, and represents a creative and exploratory space for all aspects of vocal performance, opera and contemporary experimental music theatre. Singers will have the opportunity to work closely with OperaWorks specialist vocal tutors Teuta Koço and Peter Brathwaite, as well as Goldsmiths alumna composer Catherine Kontz, in open classes, group workshops and individual drop-ins.

There will be two open workshops on physical performance (including the Laban 8 Basic Efforts) and working with text and character, led by Peter Brathwaite. Lecturer in Performance Mira Benjamin will co-host a session on opera ‘happenings’ with Catherine Kontz, to which anyone and everyone may attend, singer or not!

Goldsmiths Chamber Choir, directed by Jamie Sperling, will also reconvene for a Summer session, and some work from over the 3-day festival will be presented in an informal
sharing/performance on Friday evening at 6 pm in RHB 167.

These events are open to all interested singers, both undergraduate and post-graduate, from within and outside of the Music Department.

For a full schedule and further information contact Imogen Burman.

The Choir sessions with Jamie will be:
Wed 12 June, 6-8.30pm
Thurs 13 June, 10am-1pm
Friday 14 June, 5.15pm (warm-up) and 6 pm (sharing session)
