As part of the PureGold season, we present the final degree shows from students on the MMus in Popular Music.

PureGold is the annual music festival hosted by The Department of Music at Goldsmiths, University of London, showcasing the eclectic, innovative and exciting work coming out of the Department.

Performers:
Piotr Jaszczuk, half-Polish, half-Ecuadorian singer, guitarist, producer, and actor based in London. Every time he performs, he takes his listeners on an emotional rollercoaster ride. It would be difficult to match Yaszczuk with any contemporary radio scene but a very determined soul could finally position him somewhere at the crossroads of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, and Ben Howard, with a little back alley towards rap.

Through his music, Yaszczuk tells stories with characters in them, although these are often far from good and merry. They invite the audience to experience grotesque, mystery and darkness in the context of love and passion. As the artist himself says, ‘what happens in those stories, stays in those stories.’

Mark Hegan and Valeria Pozzo is an Italian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who draws upon elements of jazz, pop and folk. With her songs, Valeria opens a window into herself and shares something very personal and real. Her deeply emotive, authentic and captivating voice is an emotive catalyst. It triggers thoughts, feelings and memories.
