Event overview
The Department of Art Public Talks Programme Autumn 2019 welcomes artist and activist Liv Wynter.
Liv Wynter is an artist and activist, creating and organising in SEL. After dipping a toe into the battle rap scene (Don't Flop - google it), Liv graduated from Goldsmiths in 2015 (BA Fine Art First Class). Since then, Liv has gone on to cause chaos through both their personal practice and their commitment to antifascist, antisexist, and anticapitalist organising. Liv spent two years touring as a poet and working on community projects, becoming artist in residence at Tate in 2017 before publicly resigning to draw attention to the racism and sexism within the institution. In 2018 Liv completed a residency with Project Indigo - an LGBTQIA group for young people with access needs, creating an installation at Hackney Museum. Liv curated and hosted an evening of political live art for Art Night and Hayward Gallery titled 'RUPTURE'. Liv was artist in residence at FACT, Liverpool running cross-generational workshops on emotional labour strikes, continuing this at Free Word in 2019. Liv designed and ran a workshop series at Reading University, exploring safe(r) ways to make performance about trauma, an ongoing research topic. Liv's Brecht-influenced performance monologue HOUSEFIRE exhibited at Wysing, WORM Rotterdam and Centre Regional d’Art Contemporain in France. Liv is currently working on an ACE funded commision from The Bunker in London Bridge, a brechtian inspired musical called 'And So The Choir Gathers, Before It Is Too Late', which is based on antifascist organsing and the music of 2tone, skinhead, and punk (come and see it, November, https://www.bunkertheatre.com/whats-on/and-so-the-choir-gathers).
Outside of their art practice, Liv has organised with lots of different activist groups in SEL, with a focus on intersectional feminist antifascist organising. They are in punk band Militant Girlfriend, and stand in solidarity with Sisters Uncut, Anti-Raids, Antifa, Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants, and all groups organising against oppression. They are a committed abolitionist (lets talk about it), and they are currently volunteering with Advocacy Academy, a 6 month course skilling up young people in direct action.
Quit your job, join a band, start a gang.
This event is free. No booking is required. All welcome.
