This iteration of Talking Textiles will be led by historical costume researcher, Catarina Ferreira. We will be exploring the Goldsmiths Textile Collections selection of 19th century undergarments.
Victorian's were defined by their singular silhouettes, which required many layers of underwear. We will investigate how these garments were made, used and what role they played in women's lives throughout the century. The collection features many interesting pieces, such as split drawers, combinations and petticoats, all required to achieve a fashionable outfit.
Talking Textiles is a get-together for anybody interested in textiles and curious to find out more about the Goldsmiths Textile Collection. A small selection of textiles are available for viewing and discussion followed by tea & coffee.
