Artists Amy Dignam and Susan Merrick joined forces with the Women’s Art Library to create a new podcast series recording the stories of inspirational women active 50 years to now!

Woman Up! is a series of podcasts devised by Desperate Artwives in collaboration with Susan Merrick and in association with the Women’s Art Library at Goldsmiths.

Come listen to the full series in Special Collections or access online.

Driven by the many women and their stories that we come across during our art practices we realised that we wanted to start to meet and have conversations with those who inspire us. We also felt that this would be an amazing resource not only to archive, but to share with others, hence turning it into a podcast! For our 2020 series we were awarded a bursary from Curator Space in order to allow more women to travel to join us for the podcast, and better equipment for recording remote interviews allowing us to speak to a wider group of people across the globe.

The amazing women we have spoken with so far:
Series One
Shira Richter
Hibo Wardere
Althea Greenan
Laura Godfrey-Isaacs
Iyato Dunn
Rose Gibbs
Su Richardson
Amanthis Harris
Dr Lena Simic
Katy Deepwell (Video Only)
Eti Wade
Helen Sargeant
Jacqueline Rose

Series Two
Martina Mullaney
Dyana Gravina

We are choosing to talk to women* because so much of women’s experience around the world is hidden, silenced, not documented or minimised. This isn’t a podcast for only women to listen to, but it IS a podcast about women and women’s lives, women who are artists, writers, performers, mothers, activists and more. Join us via the Desperate Artwives Website, on Itunes or via Youtube for accessible captioned video versions of each episode.

*Including Trans Women 'Trans women ought to be included in the feminist coalition because we share some experiences of misogyny with cis women, because we share liberatory goals with feminism, and because our exclusion makes feminism weaker’ Alyson Escalante

Desperate Artwives, founded by artist Amy Dignam has become a space for activism and motherhood. The collective produces group shows, protest-like subversive takeovers in public spaces as well as gallery spaces, performance events, exhibitions, workshops and talks that challenge the status quo, open up the lives of women around the world and basically shout loud. DAW aims to continually widen the scope of the women and mothers that it reaches around the world through embracing new technologies and new ways of sharing work online.
