Event overview
Talk by Dr. Peter Langford (Law, Edge Hill University) on Carl Schmitt's Political Theology II
The final, major work of Carl Schmitt, Political Theology II (1969), occupies a less prominent position, in relation to Political Theology (I) (1922), within contemporary analysis and reflection upon Schmitt's thought. This paper, orientated by the question of ‘what’ this work represents within the Schmittian conception of political theology, engages in a close reading of the text.
In this close reading, the structure and purpose of text is elucidated enabling a critical reflection upon of this final restatement and defence of the possibility of Schmittian political theology.
This event is part of a seminar series on the theme of political theology hosted by the Research Unit for Contemporary Political Theory (Dept. of Politics and IR)
