Event overview
What do lawyers do? What does a day in their life look like? And can you see yourself doing their job?
Can you see yourself working for a commercial, corporate or tax law firm in the City? Or do you aspire to go into criminal law practice, or defend human rights working for an NGO? Or you might be interested in a career as a prosecutor, working for the Crown Prosecution service or other criminal justice organisation.
Perhaps you love legal theory, and you aspire to a career in academia. Or you may want to obtain a Law degree simply as a means to then pursuing a career in related fields, as a journalist, technology expert, or civil servant or you may plan to work in the creative industries.
Academics at the Department of Law at Goldsmiths University of London, legal practitioners and NGO experts working with Goldsmiths Law, will reflect on "a day in their life" as barristers, solicitors, anti-money laundering officers, prosecutors, journalists, or human rights NGO experts, to take a few examples, and will answer questions about future career prospects in these areas.
This event is directed at Year 12 and Year 13 students, mature students, parents and teachers, and students who are at the stage of choosing GCSE subjects, but is also suitable for students who are currently studying law, or who are new to the subject but are considering studying it at university.
