Goldsmiths Writers' Centre presents...An evening with Jack Underwood

Jack Underwood is the author of two critically acclaimed collections of poetry, Happiness (Faber 2015) and A Year in the New Life (Faber 2021), as well as a double pamphlet, Solo for Mascha Voice/ Tenuous Rooms (Test Centre, 2018) and his debut pamphlet published as part of the inaugural Faber New Poets scheme in 2009. Of A Year in the New Life, poems written in response to the experience of new fatherhood, Kaveh Akbar said ‘Underwood has developed an utterly clear lyric that rebukes moral obviousness and drives against false certainty’. His debut work of non-fiction, the book length lyric essay NOT EVEN THIS (Corsair, 2021), also reflects on fatherhood whilst moving nimbly between subjects as diverse as Joan of Arc, supermassive black holes, quantum mechanics, metaphor and the profound importance of silliness. He will join fellow poet and Goldsmiths tutor Richard Scott to discuss his work.

Speaker: Jack Underwood
Chair: Richard Scott
