Event overview
Research exploring Covid-19 impact on children in BAME families.
Welcome back to the online Research Cafe! Grab a cuppa or some lunch and settle down for a high-speed tour of some of the research projects taking place across Goldsmiths.
For this edition of the Research Cafe, we are joined by Claudia Bernard, Professor of Social Work and Head of Postgraduate Research in the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies at Goldsmiths, and Research Fellows Dr Anita Sharma and Dr Teresa Peres.
They will be talking about their research for Co-POWeR: Consortium on Practices of Well-being and Resilience in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Families and Communities.
For black and Asian children already experiencing the adverse effects of structural inequalities, the pandemic has added some extra challenges in relation to maintaining resilience. The preliminary findings indicate that a number of intersecting factors compounded black and Asian children’s experiences of the pandemic, including (1) belongingness (2) familial context (3) peer support and (4) multiple microaggressions. These findings show what children are doing day-to-day to increase their resilience in the wake of the pandemic. Their perspectives provide important insights into the complex mixture of factors that must be understood to build resilience post COVID-19.
After the talk there will be opportunity for questions and discussion.
This Research Cafe will take place on Microsoft Teams. All registered attendees will receive an email containing the Teams link and instructions for joining on the day of the event.
