Event overview
Share your memories of Lewisham at a pop-up ‘Memory Bank’ in Lewisham Shopping Centre.
Perhaps you remember the great flood of 1968 or the historic 1981 Black People’s Day of Action? Share a memory relating to one of six community-led projects, or anything else you’d like to see become part of a new people’s history of the borough.
Send a postcard to Lewisham, pin your memory on a map, or record a spoken message. Facilities for scanning and photographing will be available, so please bring along any photos, documents, or objects you’d like to share.
Your memories will contribute to a new digital archive and virtual museum.
Lewisham Memory Bank is part of In Living Memory: A People’s History of Post-war Lewisham.
In Living Memory celebrates Lewisham’s diversity and heritage for London Borough of Culture 2022. It empowers Lewisham’s communities to tell their own stories, presenting them through traditional means as well as artistic and cultural activities and events.
A series of community-led projects selected from around 70 expressions of interest are being supported by Goldsmiths to do research into their chosen topic, gathering the memories of local people and share them through striking cultural activities that unfold across 2022.
We Are Lewisham - London Borough of Culture is a Mayor of London initiative.
Supported by Lewisham Council and The Albany.
Made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
