20th Century Illustrator • Goldsmiths School of Art Alum (1919-1923)

Eric Fraser (1902-1983) came to Goldsmiths School of Art at the age of 17 to study what was then called commercial art, now graphic design.

After graduating from a four-year course in 1923, he began a freelance career in illustration, the same year as the BBC’s Radio Times started publishing.

For over 50 years he contributed illustrations to Radio Times as part of his successful career.

The library at Goldsmiths University of London is lucky to have a full run of Radio Times from its first issue in 1923.

In collaboration with Prof. Tim Crook and to celebrate his most recent post on the Goldsmiths History Project blog on Eric Fraser, Special Collections & Archives Manager Lesley Ruthven has curated a selection of Eric Fraser illustrations throughout the decades from the library's Radio Times collection, along with other works by Fraser and examples from our collections that give context to his style.

Goldsmiths students and staff, as well as anyone with access to the library, can drop in during opening hours, Mon to Fri 10 to 5.

Visitors to Goldsmiths, please get in touch in advance at special.collections(at)gold.ac.uk to arrange a pass.
