Creative Power: what is the value of creativity in our contemporary world?

This conference, hosted by the Centre for Language, Culture and Learning in the Department of Educational Studies at Goldsmiths on December 9th Friday, 9.30am-8pm, seeks to interrogate the power of creativity and creative writing in particular.
There will be a series of lectures, workshops and seminars on the theme of 'creative power', with speakers and workshop leaders investigating the key question: what is the value of creativity and creative writing in particular? The conference seeks to be inclusive and embrace a multiplicity of viewpoints. There will be a particular focus upon finding inclusive ways of helping all people, from all backgrounds, to be creative; you'll find the conference is very 'hands on'; you'll make your own collages, discuss the therapeutic effects of creativity in small groups, you'll have a go at doing some of your own creative writing, and you'll consider ways in which you can get your writing and work published. Particular highlights include:
A keynote given by Guy Parker-Rees on the creative power of storywriting and drawing
A sung workshop by performance artist Sally Horowitz
A graffiti and creative writing workshop by Ryan Whatley
Creative writing and exams; a how-to guide by Danja Sanovic
Eric Harper on the creative power of therapy; a workshop
Emilia Amodio on using collages and time-lapse films to nurture creativity
Seb Duncan on using Google maps to fire your storywriting
Syeda Salmah on using drawing and freewriting to explore your own cultural backgrounds
Rhys Byrom on story shape 'hacks'
Georgia Cowley, cover designer and artist, will 'live' illustrate the event.
At 5pm, there will be a launch of the two anthologies that the MA in Creative Writing and Education students have produced: 'Diversity and Inspiration' (CLCL 2021) 'Creative Power: Creative Writing Gets Different' (CLCL 2022).
The day will finish with a 'literary cabaret' which will include an open-mic session, amongst many other entertaining goodies; this will run from 5.30pm onwards.
