with discussion on trans joy & liberation, survival &community, & radical queer trans futures imagination beyond 'Western' frameworks & against global anti-trans violence

This space is jointly organised by Goldsmiths' SU Community Chats and CFR, Goldsmiths

Join us for a film screening of House of Recong (Rizky Rahad, 25 mins) and a discussion on trans joy and liberation, survival, community and care, and radical queer trans futures and imagination beyond 'Western' frameworks and against global anti-trans violence.

Film Synopsis: House of Recong (25 minutes) - Seven survivors of anti-trans police violence in Indonesia escape state surveillance and dive into their fantasy to reclaim their image. ‘House of Rencong’ imagines what radical queer liberation looks like beyond the limits of Western visibility politics.

Filmmaker: Rizky Rahad (he/him) is an Indonesian filmmaker whose work explores radical queer aesthetics of excess, opacity, and fantasy, as a means to resist the violence of the state and representation itself. Rizky is a recent graduate of MA Visual Anthropology programme at Goldsmiths, and his work has been featured on VICE, HBO, Netflix, and Vox.

Rizky will be in conversation with Leila Prasad and Aria Danaparamita (Mita)

Leila is a researcher and video-activist, doing a Cultural Studies PhD at Goldsmiths. Her research focuses on radical filmmaking as a mode of activist inquiry.

Mita is a campaigner and former journalist from Indonesia working across the UK, US, and Southeast Asia. They engage in decolonial abolitionist activism.
