Event overview
Artists, Sba Shaikh and Vicky Card, first consulted the Goldsmiths Textile Collection whilst researching for their Master's in Contemporary Textiles at the University of Hertfordshire in 2021.
Following their encounter in the collection and through conversations in their shared studio space they realised that although their work was stylistically different, they shared a lot of the same ideas, in particular, the social implications of femininity and how it affects them. This overlap is something they have both explored within their practice using concealment and veiling, bringing their own personal history and cultural heritage to construct rich narratives. Uncovering and revealing items within the collection has enabled them to jointly expand on the theme of concealment within a feminist context and has resulted in these series of works exhibited here.
