To celebrate the launch of Journalism, Culture and Society (Routledge), by Professor Angela Phillips and Dr Omega Douglas, join an international expert panel.
We’ve lined up an international panel of speakers to mark the launch Journalism, Culture and Society (Routledge), by Professor Angela Phillips and Dr Omega Douglas.
The panel will address some of the most pressing issues journalists and journalism face in their countries.
Speakers:
• Emeritus Professor Angela Phillips, Goldsmiths, University of London, UK: on the varying constraints – political, economic & social – faced by journalists across the world and the need to support journalism and journalists.
• Professor Herman Wasserman, Stellenbosch University, South Africa: on the relationship between broadcast journalism, civil society, and government.
• Dr Omega Douglas, Goldsmiths, University of London, UK: on why a lack of diversity and inclusion is bad for journalism in democracies.
• Nikki Usher, Associate Professor, University of San Diego, USA: on the constraining effects of commercialisation on content.
• Aasim Khan, Assistant Professor, IIIT-Delhi, India: on the problematic role of government, the law and technology in journalism.
The discussion will be followed by a drinks reception.
